It was strange,I had all but forgotten that I had a dream of a young guy,...more like a teenager with real chubby chin, very YOUNG, quite endearing, since he had a babyface. This guy/kid was on stage and I saw his face very close couple times in my dream. Just now, this evening around seven thirty pm, some ad was playing tune so similar to the tune in above song & when I saw Roy Orbison, I knew that I'd SEEN him in mu Dreams & now I know. That's amazing for me.

I googled for bio on Roy O. Poor guy, he had suffered immense tragedies during his lifetime.His first wife, Claudette Frady died in a motorbike accident in 1966. In 1968 while he was on a concert tour in Enland,his home in Tennessee burnt to the ground,taking with it the lives of his 2 kids(10 yrs & 5 yrs resp.),while the youngest was saved by Roy's parents.He met his second wife in England in 1968 & had two sons. Roy O. passed away relatively early @ age of 52 on Dec6'88. RIP Roy.We Love YOU.

great tune. but does anyone get the sense that this is lip synced? i mean, his roy's guitar isn't doing a thing, the strings are coming from fuck knows where, the background vocals are obviously sung by more than 2 people (more like 10, or two on 3 or 4 tracks). and orbison doesn't particularly look like he's actually singing. unless i completely missed the boat and this is a music video?

Yes very true, this was his only live performance of the song on 11/19/88 at the Diamond Awards and they used the footage as a music video in Jan. 89....turned out to be one of my favorite videos ever with the way it was made.....very very very haunting and like a dream.

Here goes the whole shabang for you....some fans have argued this for years that this was lip synched, Roy is actually singing to the song, but it could be that its tapeback, the studio version of the song, but Roy is indeed still singing, the mic may have been off, no idea, but the two other songs he did that night "Crying" and "Pretty Woman" were indeed sang live, maybe being that the song was new the band may not have known it yet, however the audience loved it...hands down.
