This is quite nice. Her voice is a very sweet lyric voice, which is a different shade to this aria when compared to the more popular Bartoli version, which has richer voice and more "coloring".

I think the whole idea of being "agitata" doesn't come across as well in this performance, it is lovely though. It's nice to hear the clarity in juxaposition to Bartoli.

I think that's fantastic and I don't know what's wrong with you, but you're all so negative. She's got totally angelic voice, and Bartolli is very good too, but I think this is the better version. This sounds baroque, Bartolli's not. I love Emma Kirkby!!!!! But, before you kill me, I love Bartolli too.

I'll have bartoli on 1st, 3rd, 5th day of the week and kirkby on the the other days. I love both versions. Kirkby adds very appropriate ornaments on the da capo, which otherwise is just a repeat of the first half.. Very baroque. Her handel arias are also superb. First rate.

I would add my own perspective to these _Bartoli versus Kirkby_ arguments if only the respective comments only seemed to know what they are talking about. I trust instead that those who truly know the better and the why need not my opinion.

The first verison I ever heard was Batroli, then Kirkby and later Jo and Cangemi. While all of these are absolutely amazing, I still prefer Kirkby, even if she misses the point of the aria a bit, she still sounds so perfect that I cannot possibly stop listening to her.

Are you fucking kidding me? This is the worst version i've ever heard of this song. For 1, it lacks ENERGY, it's way too damn slow. 2. It lacks feeling. I'm guessing the singer doesn't speak Italian, because it just sounds like she's singing the words, which is crap.
and 3, slap yourselves in the face if you prefer this garbage over Bartoli. This is just BORING.

And yet, she has the smoothest and best-articulated coloratura of any singer on YouTube, even when we completelly miss the meaning of the aria. If it were up to me, I'd take Kirkby's technique and ornamentation with either Jo of Bartoli's delivery.

Well yes, I think youre right about the smoothnes,... I said so because I used to Bartolli coloratura technique which is No1.(I like Bartolli's kind of a trumpet sound of her voice while singing coloratura parts). Still, the end of Kirkby's Agitata (5.25) is just unacceptable...

There really isn't a perfect recording of this piece anywhere, and no one's going to agree on who sings it the best, anyway.
I might even say that the aria is simply so difficult that these arguments are really pointless. Any singer who can produce a listenable rendition of this piece is worthy of some accolades, in my opinion.
It's not really the piece for anyone...

There are a bunch of chirpy Cecilia copycats doing this aria now, Emma Kirkby recorded this version before Bartoli ever claimed it.

2. Also don't blame Kirkby for your lack of intelligence in music.
3. Don't go around insulting other singers who have worked hundreds times harder to sing music with their own interpretations. They don't deserve to hear that type of stupid nonsense from anonymous idiots.
