I'm not a fan ... ( 3 weeks ago by jalex11)
I'm not a fan actually, just cited her as someone who could sing relatively well and who is noe reduced to a slurring seemingly-tone deaf mess because of drugs. How can you say heroin is good for anyone though?? Who did drugs ever help?
1st of all your ... ( 3 weeks ago by finally39)
1st of all your local pharmacies and hospitals are full of opiates; 2nd I never pointed any fingers, and I don't know if Ella used drugs or not. Anita said she did heroin the day of this performance, and she not only delivered a perfect performance with perfect pitch and time. She also seemed very normal, and looked like she was having a ball. If you read some of the other comments on this page we all have to agree that drugs helped with her delivery and stage presence. Why are you so anti-drug?
Lest we not forget ... ( 3 weeks ago by finally39)
Lest we not forget that we live in a world where we have to recognize that even Jazz's famous cigarette and cup of coffee also contain drugs, so exactly where do you draw the line? If you differentiate by the labels "legal" and "illegal" then you will have to admit we have seen those lines severely blurred by the horrible results of alcohol use and abuse. Look at the obesity problem and think about the abuse of sucrose, and don't even get me started on caffeine. These things all come from plants

Because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that excluding marijuana, drugs like heroin, cocaine, acid etc. are extemely addictive and harmful and damage your body. I don't believe that helps anything. Ella didn't as far as i know, but look at billie holiday. I'm wondering why you aren't more anti-drug.
Don't you see that ... ( 3 weeks ago by finally39)
Don't you see that being anti-drug is like ignoring part of life, and this whole anti-drug policy isn't working. It makes just as much sense to outlaw all plants as to try to outlaw a select few. Better education is the way forward and an open understanding about plant substances and plant extractions. You can demonize it and use propaganda against it if you want, but the fact is that these strong plants were here before we were born and will remain after we go. We should try to embrace nature.

Actually heroin and acid are both semisynthetic, contain chemicals and therefore are not all natural. In any case There are many harmful things in nature so I don't get the argument. I think it's completely insane to suggest that crack or heroin might be GOOD for someone (correct me if i'm wrong that you believe this). It's unfathomable that you are of sound mind and believe this!

Edgar Allan Poe was ... ( 3 weeks ago by jalex11)
Edgar Allan Poe was a genius on his own. His death may have actually been caused by drugs. This is insane. It scares me that there are people in the world that think heroin is good. And then suggest that I'M ignorant. To see how great drugs are check out: Billie Holiday, Janis Joplin, Judy Garland, Jim Morrison, Gia Carangi, Edith Piaf,Chet Baker, Lenny Bruce, montgomery clift, Nick Drake, Jimi hendrix. Oh and ask Whitney Houston what drugs have done for her. I hear she sounds GREAT lately
I don't agree with ... ( 3 weeks ago by evlog)
I don't agree with drug use but drugs enhance (or decrease) the function of certain parts of the brain. If a drug causes a part of the brain that is responsible for creativity, musicality, or what have you then an artist as an artist could be better for it. I'm not saying that the drugs don't have the potential to destroy the person. Look at Elvis.
You are not only ... ( 2 weeks ago by finally39)
You are not only trying to put words in my mouth, but you are splitting hairs with the semisynthetic thing, that feeds right into that severe double-standard that I talked about in an above post. I see by your remarks that you are a strong crusader for your cause. I'm not pro-crack or shooting up, but I am pro-people getting their medicine. I don't think that should be governed. That's why we have to change policy, attitude, education to make things better because current pathways lead us nowhere.

Some musicians use a bit of pot to open up their creative mind a bit but too much use just makes people stupid. Herion and narcotics have never been about being creative. It is all about dulling and killing pain. This ends up a dead end because the pain (psychological and physical) only gets worse with increased use. Drugs seem to be attractive to young people for some reason. All the old jazz and rock musicians will know the drug mystique myth it is a big lie. Still, people still buy it.
