You are wrong... I ... ( 3 months ago by DrApologetics)
You are wrong... I like Don but if Don's versions is so good, why doesn't anyone remember him for it? They remember Roy and Roy blew the roof off with this song...Don is a distant second and even he would tell you I am right. No one can touch Roy Orbison's voice...well with the exception of maybe Nashville's Kelton Swade but that's about it. Roy's voice soared like an angel and with operatic power! Keep an eye out for Kelton Swade...absolutely amazing!
I disagree with you ... ( 3 months ago by bryndism)
I disagree with you, to me Don´s version of this song is so much better than Roy´s , do not get me wrong, Roy was also a wonderful singer, but I think Don´s voice was more suited for this particular song.

Wow, a respectful disagreement on YouTube. Who would have thought? But I agree with DrApologetics on this one; Roy's voice is more refined, smoother and better - at least for this song. Don's voice is best when he sings more folksy, emotional, wailing songs (i.e., Vincent), and Crying is not this kind of song. Don't get me wrong though, I have a lot of respect for both artists and what they've contributed to music. Roy's voice, in my own opinion, works better with this song than Don's does.

On the issue of Roy vs Don I side with 'bryndism' with all respect to Roy who is fantastic.

Actually...
truth is....
BOTH Roy and Don recorded excellent versions of this song!!
I enjoy them both.
If you can't comprehend this, just go listen to a Crying cover by someone else.
I really can't think of another version which compares to either of theirs.
(K.D. Lang butchered it)
(Morning Benders tried)
Even female singers who can hit Roy's high notes can't seem to equal Roy or Don on this number.
Verdict:
It's a TOSS-UP!

This voice is pure butter. Seemingly effortless, this unstrained, smooth and seamless rendition of the late, Great Roy Orbison's classic is in itself a work of American art.
