If Bach was alive and was not aware of modern technology he could never have expected his brilliant cello suite to have excelled Casals version .Dont knock it just sit back and believe !!!!!

When something is as amazing as this the quality of the recording does not matter in fact you should hear right through it. Don't listen to the quality of the recording, listen to him and you will see.

Not an expert on the instrument or the delivery, but have been reminded once again of the power of music to move and excite the emotions. What a miracle that for the blink of an eye there was a man named JS Bach who weaved magic with nothing but his mind's ear and a soaring imagination. I could die happy

This is an excellent version; such expression in the interpretation;
The recording does have limitation and squelches at times; but who really cares;
More than any other piece for a solo instrument, (and perhaps because the cello s so close to the human voice range) this piece is moving in a spiritual way; if music can suggest god exists, this is the most influential tune.
The expression ... ( 3 weeks ago by SlyFox616)
The expression Casals puts into every phrase makes most of the other interpretations (even Rostropovich's) of this piece seem dull and lifeless. Truly phenomenal.

The limitations this video puts on his sound is so unfair but you can definitely almost feel what he was feeling when he performed, I wish I could've seen him play this in person...bet it was lively and interesting!!!

This music is very beautiful. But there is a mistake: his name isn't Pablo Casals. His name is Pau Casals. Because Pablo is a Spanish name, and Pau is catalan.

I don't feel that this stands out as one of Pablo's best interpetive performances,because of a lack of expressive affect focus.But that said...his playing generally articulated ahead of the perceived downbeat with some variance and his many micro-accelerandi make this nonetheless a 'worthwhile' performance.
