We are in the year 2008!!! Hello!! Slavery is a part of history, but why in the hell is it still a part of our lives today, let it be history! No one can change that, and it is no longer an excuse as to why we as black people can't progress! I am not enslaved! I can go where I want when I want and do what the hell I want, why are we still talking about this shit like it happened yesterday? WAKE UP PEOPLE! I would like to say that is one of the truest statements that could ever be told. This is ridiculous that some African Americans hide behind this still. Look at what happened during Katrina. Than look what happened in the Central US when they just had those disastrous flooding. Could it be possible that the people in LA, the majority, are leaches on society and have no intent on bettering themselves or society? Now Obama wants to help them even more ...

"Leaches" a large number of people caught in the storm were helping other AMERICANS that the state and the city government had failed. To previous comment made, that majority of them are leaches is complete duff. I'm for and from LA and I had several family members that I took in before the storm and several of my family members went back to help those in need. Leaches, I met a few and most are not in Louisiana, but on YouTube watching history and doing little to shape it.

GET OVER IT!!!!!!!Every single race has been enslaved at some point in time. If you hate this country so much then leave. I never did shit to nobody and my family never had any part of slavery. I am not going to feel bad about something that I had nothing to do with. If you are stuck in a bad environment then join the military. That's what I did and it changed my life. Take responsibility for your actions. This guy isn't helping anybody of any color. This is just holding back progress.

He's completely missed the point that Lincoln was the first president of the Republican Party, which was the first American political party that explicitly supported liberation. So even though Lincoln only freed slaves incrementally (because he feared the wrath of of Union Slave states) is irrelevant. It was necessary for liberation to occur when it did. Lincoln and the Republican Party accomplished what they sought: universal manumission and outlaw of slavery.

The fact remains that the social infastructure of an entire race was completely dismantled and didn't exist for over 200 years.
Now I am for personal accountability, but our forefathers(in social standing) did not take responsibility for what they did and the black race in America has been paying the price in blood ever since.
It is the same with the indigenous people of all of America.

I respect your opinion and agree that they got fucked over, but I don't understand how thousands of immigrants can come to this country every year, bust their asses and make something of themselves but they can't. Something doesn't add up. A lot of them don't even speak english but they adapt and work their asses off. I am just saying the excuses are getting old and the people using them need to look at themselves before blaming someone else.

Slaves were no longer needed because of machinery. So to have romantic feelings of Lincoln's agenda is false. If the "cotton jin" was not created along with other machinery then the slaves would have been enslaved for hundreds of years more.

The slaves were not able to make as much money as the machines would eventually make slave owners, thus releasing them unto their own. Not because of some spiritual revelation of guilt or the understanding of how horrific slave owners were it was all about greed and money.

The cotton gin was invented in 1793 and the first tractor was invented in 1796.The Emancipation Proc: The first one, issued September 22, 1862, declared the freedom of all slaves. It was about money/power/greed not an emotional feeling of how wrong it was to enslave people. Lincoln wasn't a hero to non whites.

Lincoln(slave owner) knew that keeping slaves and have the machinery would not be beneficial to them. They could make 100 times the money with machinery rather than have slaves to work the land. When the slaves were freed they did not have equal rights and couldn't get good paying jobs.

The first slaves were brought over in the 1700s until the end of the 1800s. It took over 200years for Africans in America to get equal rights. The Civil rights movement/War 1955-1968 post Marin Luther King. So Lincoln wasn't a non hero Marint Luther King was a true Hero!
