He's an asshole - that's for sure! I grew up in the same town as him and knew the family - his other movie 'spanking the monkey' was about his incestuous relationship w/ his mother! He's got a younger sister who was even more screwed up - the whole family are nut jobs. I want to see where Clooney knocks him out and take him down. Lets see how the spoiled brat of a 'director' reacts. Prob runs off crying to his mama. What a psycho - geek! Hope Lilly Tomlin should sue his loser ass off!!

I <3 Huckabees is an absolutely fantastic film, so I couldn't really care less about his fits of rage.
The fact that most people don't understand him, or his films, just makes it all the more rewarding for those that do.

well it was clever enough not to make a definite message or a morale..but basically, it comes down to "life is a mess, yet it's beautiful..but a mess....but beautiful...and so on" there is no one way to look at it just like living itself.

as a director I am so completely over actors who have to "contextualise" and question every single thing. I agree with the earlier post, the director has the vision and should be shown some respect. No wonder he lost his temper.

The smart thing to do in a situation like this is to clear out the crew and have a go at the actor in private or eloquently defuse the situation. Russell took the worst possible option. Humiliating an actor in front of the crew has a boomerang effect. He opened himself to ridicule and the label of being difficult. Russell would have totally lost the respect of the crew by behaving like a manic, not to mention the rest of the cast. The leak of 'rushes' testifies to the fact.

I do agree with you, however I had a look at his bio on IMDb, he was directing and producing this. I have just finished shooting a low budget feature where I acted in both capacities and I will never do it agiain if avoidable. The level of stress is incredible, it's easy to say what the smart thing is but clearly when there's an outburst like this you are no longer thinking with the rational side of your brain. Creative people are rarely understood and too often labeled when they lose it.

You see, it's that kind of attitude (arrogant, proprietorial of the work) that causes the problems. As an actor, I am so completely over directors who think that by calling themselves 'directors' they are automatically entitled to respect. We work together, or it just doesn't work.
