I agree with you and kpitt1204, because having listened to that exact song on my Etta James album *many* times, I can say it is from the audio recording. For television at that time (and to this day), they ask performers to lip synch. Watching again carefully, you might see that the band is also miming. This is no disrespect to Ms. James or her powerful voice. She is a true artist and therefore does not repeat canned performances as well as the more recent 'video-internet-era' pop-tarts.

I hope that Beyonce does well on this movie. Her motive is to get the oscar. They only give you a "black oscar" when you play a tragic black character.. THe maid, the pimp etc etc etc. But Etta would be a TOUGH act to follow. That singing comes from REAL pain.
