get a basic dean edge 09, its about 100 so its cheap and its good for beginners, so learn on a cheap but when you get better buy more expensive ones

Yeah picks suck, most bassists prefer the hands on feel. Frees you up to move from plucking to slapping and popping.

well picking is ok but its up to you, alot of basses use picks but to it looks cooler to see your fingers wailing on the strings, buy a grip master to help with that
