The real Superman: Wilt Chamberlain

Uploaded by: WiltatKansas
Video Description:
The greatest basketball player of all time; nor Jordan, neither Shaquille O'neal. And the best sportsman of the 20th century: Wilt Chamberlain.
Chamberlain was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996), ranked #2 in SLAM Magazine's Top 75 NBA Players of all time (2003) and #13 in the ESPN list "Top North American athletes of the century" and voted second best center of all time by ESPN.
In my eyes he is the best in everything.
Essential and amazing:

Back then, players ... ( 3 weeks ago by tunanorth)
Back then, players were measured in their bare feet.
Today's players are measured in their court shoes, which adds an extra inch or even more.
The players weight was also taken when they came in as a rookie, and never adjusted upward.

Almost forgot, Scholastic Sports Magazine voted Wilt the best US high-school athlete OF ALL TIME.
Besides basketball, he also won state championships in hurdles and high jump, and even beat the captain of the tennis team in an informal game.
Yeah, that is sure. ... ( 3 weeks ago by WiltatKansas)
Yeah, that is sure. I always say that porbably Jordan coul be better, but Wilt was the best since he was born and Jordan not. Jordan probably grow up as the best, but when he was 14 he was not even basketball lpayer, and Olayuwon neither.

In 1984, Dr. J played against a 37-year old Kareem in a one-on-one match to benefit charity.
Kareem won quite easily, showing what an advantage indeed it is to be an agile 7-footer in the game of basketball.
You are free to speculate away regarding what that might mean when matching up great players as the "greatest ever".
There are numerous video records of a young and healthy Kareem going against the aging Wilt, and Wilt more than holding his own.

You're missing the point, read my statement again.
As a local high-schooler, I was in the 10th row AT game 7 of the NBA finals in 1969, the last game that Wilt and Russell ever played against each other, with the balloons in the rafters of the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles.
I still get a painful knot in my stomach whenever they show a replay of Don Nelson's shot bouncing high off the heel of the rim.............. and going in.

Sorry i'm from Spain and i don't understood well what "holding his own" means. I think Wilt is the best (and John Lennon too), and i'm not usually wrong.

WiltatKansas, noticed you have clips of the 1972 NBA-ABA all star game....amazing!
Do you have the last minutes of the 4th quarter, with the ABA slightly ahead and threatening to close it out?
Twice in a row, the seemingly superhuman [and never before seen by mass audience] Dr. J is rejected by Wilt, allowing the NBA to squeak it out.

I think it's the best highlight of Wilt and my best video ever made.

OK, I understand now.
Kareem is/was 11 years younger than Wilt, yet even in his [comparatively] old age, Wilt always did very well against a phenomenal young player who dominated everybody else.
Just a few months before that fateful game 7 in Los Angeles, I also attended the last home game that Lew Alcindor ever played for UCLA.
What a great time for basketball fans!

Watching these film clips of Wilt brings tears to me eyes. He was the Greatest Player to ever step foot on a basketball court. Forget Kobe and any other of these guys. They couldn't carry Wilts Jock Strap.

From Wikipedia:
"Mikan became so dominant that the NBA had to change its rules of play in order to reduce his influence such as widening the lane from six to twelve feet ("The Mikan Rule"). He also played a role in the introduction of the shot clock, and in the NCAA his dominating play around the basket led to the outlawing of defensive goaltending."

I take it you've never heard of George Mikan, then?

"Jordan was constantly at the foul line even when he wasn't fould. Wilt was triple teams and HACKED constantly and they never called it. They HAD to hack Wilt or he would have averaged 75 points per game."
Um, have you actually compared the number of free throw attempts Jordan and Chamberlain had? Wilt had four straight years where he had more than 1,000. Michael never had that many in a season. Wilt's total is also around 2,000 more than Jordan, too.
Droog, you're ... ( 1 day ago by BigTimePride)
Droog, you're missing the point. MJ was constantly at the foul like for phantom calls. If you take away those phantom "free" throws due to phantom calls, MJ would have only averaged 26-28 ppg. Wilt on the other hand got NO phantom calls. Heck, he nearly quit after his rookie season due to the excessive hacking with no calls. Bad FT shooter or not, you will never see any man average 50 and 25 for a season again. Wilt was more dominating than 2 Jordan's on the court.
