the gpu is negligible when it comes to performance .
If the game/ program is set to utilizing the multi cores it will look great !
The GPU only producing the image for the video output nothing more !
especially at encoding video or doing folding@home it shows how slow cpu's currently are even the i7 is stale in comparison to a latest Nvidia/Ati/S3 or whatever unified shader based GPU which have upto 800 cores.
also encoding data in any format is 10 times faster than on any CPU and also encrypting and decoding can be done on a GPU around 5 years quicker than a current-gen cpu in 256bit AES.
