He was slow and He couldnt jump but he was always in the right place at the right time. He had a great Basket Ball Mind.
He won a championship in Miami a couple of years ago.
3-1 Johnson has beaten Bird in a championship series or game.
Its open to interpretation really.
Magic as good as he was really wasnt the leader of the Lakers until 1987. That was when he won his first MVP. Up until then Jabbar was the leader of that team and he was the one they went to in the clutch situation. Kareem carried much of the halfcourt offense.
Bird on the other hand was always the man in Boston. No doubt. He was a great clutch shooter and his passing was as good as Magic`s he was a superior rebounder
Johnson like Bird, willed their teams to championships. Johnson was the spirit and morale of his team.
Players are not forced to get better until they have to. Magic didn't have to step it up as leader until he was forced too. Again he was the heart and soul.
Bottomline, Magic and Larry are equally talented and assimilated differently into their teams.
Im not saying Magic wasnt great just that Id give Bird an edge overall. He could do more and beat you in more ways.
Your entitled to your opinion many people feel Magic was better. I saw both of them at their peaks and if I was starting a team Id go with Bird first.
Thats my opinion. They both accomplished alot.
Bird took the leadership of his team. It started in the lockeroom and he backed it up on the court.
In that series Larry did everything. He was the run away MVP of the Finals. That was a series that was stackd with many great players.
On the other hand Magic cost his team in many ways. His turnovers and missed free throws He basically choked. The pressure got to him.
Bird willed his team to victory that time.
I would put both guys in the top 5-6 players alltime.
As far as Jordan goes he could have been the greatest but regardless of what the modern media says there are a handful of guys that belong in the conversation. Jabbar, Wilt, Russell, Oscar, Bird and Magic.
not really. When the best (ie Bird and Magic) say that Jordan was the best....it ain't just a media thing. When a Detroit head coach who beat the 90s bulls team 3 times says Michael "embarassed the league"......it ain't just the media.
Wilt maybe held the dominance Jordan had in his era but he ain't the GOAT.
But like I said....Johnson didn't get EVEN better until he was FORCED too. Bird made that possible.
I agree Magic was a special player and he actually made the game fun for Kareem again and allowed him to continue to play at a high level.
Bottom line is that Kareem made Magic`s game easier and vice versa.
