Video Description:
Some scenes put together showing the death of Gaius Julius Caesar in the last episode of the first Rome season. I cut out the scenes of Atia and Servilia and of Lucius and Niobe. Brilliant series. Check out my video response showing the death of Niobe.

Well, if ROME got one thing right it's how BLOODY the whole affair was. Most depictions of Caesar's murder are ludicrously pretty. This one had all the raw terror of a man being stabbed 23 times. Heartbreaking.

brilliant acting,i felt sad about how caesar's life ended, after everything he did for rome,he expanded the empire and heightened its power,he proberly got too greedy and did terrible things that we may never know about. i cant imagine the horror of being stabbed 23 times by people who you trusted, but it happened to one man many years ago i wonder how he felt? scared?bitter?angry?upset? i supose he wud have been confused and disorientated.

Caesar got what was coming to him.
He was naive in handing out jobs and honors to former enemies. He wanted to have total power and be an absolute dictator. Caesar was a bit like JFK in that he didn't realise the enemies he was making all over the Roman Empire especially the ruling classes.

According to history, Julius Caesar was neither greedy nor did he commit outrageius acts. He was among the first prominent Roman leaders with a passionate desire to change the corruption that was the Roman Empire at the time.

Gaius Julius Caesar ... ( 3 days ago by hollywoodwerewolf)
Gaius Julius Caesar aimed to revolutionize the government of Rome and its empire. He planned it for the Greater Good of all, not just the personal enrichment of the Old Guard families and senators, the people who believed that nothing should change. Caesar knew that if there was no change the Roman world would become stagnant. He was able to push through quite a few reforms. He was killed by men who were angry at his changes and jealous of his wealth, power and success.

Well, of course,Caesar didn't deserve what he got.The point is those who killed him believed he did.Caesar simply didn't realise or chose to ignore the danger he was in from those who hated him and all he stood for.Caesar was probably acting in the best interests of Rome as he saw them. His enemies didn't see it that way.Caesar was ahead of his times. Look what came after him - Augustus a king in everything but name followed by dictatorial maniacs like Caligula and Commodius -to name only a few.

Lucius Sulla retired at the height of his power and lived on for another few years in peaceful retirement, so letting go of power was possible, if rare.
I've never been ... ( 1 day ago by ptolemyauletesXII)
I've never been entirely convinced that Caesar intended to sieze power, subvert the Republic, or dominate Rome. He seems to have been caught up in events of the time as much as he created the events of the time. Cetainly once he had gained a degree of power, he became increasingly reluctant to let it go, likely feeling botht that he was the only man who could maintain order and that he himself would be in danger should he release his grip. His march across the Rubicon was, after all,

motivated largely by a real fear of prosecution and destruction by his enemies should he lay down his Imperium and return to Rome a private citizen. Nor am I convinced that Caesar wassome far seeing man ahead of his times. Brilliant and pragmatic no doubt, but many of his reforms were motivated by political considerations as much as any idealistic goal to improve the Republic or create equality between all Romans. Such ideas were pretty alien to the Roman mind.
Whether Caesar ' ... ( 1 day ago by ptolemyauletesXII)
Whether Caesar 'deserved' to die or not is I suppose a matter of subjectivity, but it may help to note that this is a man who murdered as many as 1,000,000 Gauls and Germans, men women and children, in an unprovoked invasion of Ancient France motivated solely by a desire for military glory and riches. The Romans were experts at this sort of thing and none better than Caesar. He once ordered that the entire male poulation of a rebellious tribe should have their hands cut off as a punishment.
